Probate support

What it is

When someone dies, their estate usually cannot be fully dealt with until the right legal authority is in place. That process is commonly called probate.

Executors named in a will apply for a grant of probate. If there is no will, a different application is made. Banks, land registries and pension providers typically need to see the grant before they will release assets.

It is a practical job as much as a legal one: finding paperwork, valuing things, paying debts and tax, then distributing what remains. It often lands on people who are already grieving.

We provide full support, applications and guidance. You can stay as involved as you wish. Fees are agreed up front. We do not charge a percentage of the estate.

Who it’s for

  • You have been named as executor and are not sure where to start
  • A relative has died and the paperwork feels overwhelming
  • You want help with the application, or with administering the estate
  • You would like someone calm and experienced to walk you through the steps

Questions about probate support

Can you help if there is no will?

Yes. The process is a little different — often called letters of administration rather than probate — but families still need to value the estate, apply for authority, and distribute according to intestacy rules.

We can explain who is entitled to apply and what the law says must happen.

Do you charge a percentage of the estate?

No. We agree a fixed fee once we understand the work. We do not charge a percentage of the estate and we do not take commission on products.
